Hello bloggers.  My name is Dyamone Clark, as you may know my blog topic is Drag Culture. Above is a photo from the first ever reality T.V. show featuring drag queens known as RuPaul's Drag Race. The show aired February 2nd, 2009.The show had six successful seasons and 71 episodes with two spin-offs. It was the 1st most watched series on Logo. The show had 12 award nominations, and won 6 of the twelve. Contestants must be 21 to enter and may be of any sexual orientation, but most have been all gay men, and only five open transgendered contestants. The contestants go through mini challenges, main challenges and face-offs, and are at the end judged by six judges to decide who goes home. At the end there is one winner who is crowned Americas Next Drag Superstar. With this show breaking reality T.V. norms it was a very successful show that gave drag queens a chance to be seen in a bigger light rather than underground.

  1. Dyamone,
This was a very interesting blog post. You have a topic that can be hard to talk about and even find situations like this. This was a very good example and really shows how even TV is starting to except things out of the social 'norm'. I think it is great that it was the 1st watched series on Logo, its definitely a start! Great job.

  2. I liked seeing this blog post because i do like to watch a lot of reality TV shows and i wish i could have seen this. I think its good that this show aired so people could see other genders and their sexualities. I like watching shows that go against the what is considered to be "normal". I hope more production companies continue to make more shows like this.

  3. I have seen this show before and it is very fun! Just like with every other reality show, there is drama, but overall I think it is a very light hearted and fun show. It's great to get shows that have things like Drag Culture on television because it is part of life and shouldn't be hidden by media. I also think it's great this show is on because and let others see into the world to help them understand without having to be there in person.

  4. This is interesting because I have never heard of this TV show. That may be because of the show going against the social norms, it is not talked about much within every day conversation between heterosexual people. it is interesting to see that this actually went on for that long. Shows that the world is beginning to change more and more each day.
